Published to accompany the exhibition of the same name, A Lasting Moment showcases Marc Riboud's photographs of Leeds in 1954, in which he captured post-war life in the city. The photographs were lost and then rediscovered in 2004, when Riboud returned to Leeds and discovered a city brimming with optimism. Leeds, as Caryl Phillips' essay observes, has entered into a world of conspicuous pleasure and affluence. A compassionate bystander, Marc Riboud's photographs visualise this transformation with a gentle wit.
